The Education Committee is open to all and meets monthly or as needed. Committee members are responsible for providing ongoing, quality educational programs for the membership. This includes CE, REALTOR® certification and designation courses, non-CE opportunities with YPN and the Property Management Council, and topics for the General Membership Meetings and BIC Breaks.

Do you like meeting new people and networking with your peers? How about proposing new ideas to help members be successful? This Committee is open to all, including community partners, and meets monthly or as needed. Members evaluate new member opportunities; recruit new memberships, both REALTOR® and Community Partner; recruit sponsors; coordinate outreach to new members; produce an annual membership survey; and recommend/develop new member programs and services as needed.

Advocacy or Community Involvement
Concerned with Advocacy or Community Involvement? Try:

Members plan, organize, and host the charity Bowling Tournament in the winter months, part of OBAR's Surf, Turf & Roll events that benefit OBAR’s Scholarship and Disaster Relief funds held with the Outer Banks Community Foundation. Planning includes securing the venue, sponsors, and prize donations. Members recruit teams, volunteers, promote the event and most importanty - HAVE FUN!

Open to all and meets as needed. Members identify and recognize the excellent volunteer work that REALTORS® are doing in the community; reviews nominations, and selects a recipient for the Kim Endre Good Neighbor Award that is presented at General Membership Meetings.

Don't play golf? No problem! Have fun at Kilmarlic Golf Club by serving on the charity Golf Tournament Committee. As part of OBAR's Surf, Turf & Roll charity events, all proceeds benefit OBAR’s Scholarship and Disaster Relief funds held with the Outer Banks Community Foundation. Members recruit teams and sponsors; secure raffle prizes and work on promoting the event.

"If you don't have a seat at the table, you are likely on the menu!" Ensure OBAR has a seat at the table and join the Government Affairs Committee.  Members serve a two-year term and review national, state, and local public policy issues affecting the real estate industry and OBAR members. Members make recommendations, in coordination with the Government Affairs Director, to the Board of Directors on key issues.

"If Real Estate is Your Profession, Politics is YOUR Business!" Let's make sure our elected officials support the REALTOR Party! The RPAC Committee is open to all and meets a few times a year. Members educate membership on the importance of the REALTOR® Political Action Committee (REALTOR®PAC or RPAC), its successes, and what it does for REALTORS® and property owners and recommend new methods to assist with these efforts. Members also educate the membership on the levels of RPAC investment and engage in fundraising through direct collections, phone banks, and through coordination of any RPAC functions.

Members plan, organize, and host the annual fall Surf Fishing event, part of OBAR's Surf, Turf, and Roll charity events, including location, schedule, judges, donations, prizes, teams, sponsors, volunteers, and promotion plans with proceeds benefiting OBAR’s Scholarship and Disaster Relief funds held with the Outer Banks Community Foundation.

Open to all, YPN Planning Committee members plan and organize events/meetings to help real estate professionals excel in their careers by giving them the tools and encouragement to become involved in four core areas: REALTOR® Association, real estate industry, peers, and community. YPN functions are open to all REALTORS® and Community Partners of all ages.

OBAR Governance & Professional Standards
How about the nuts and bolts of OBAR Governance & Professional Standards?

Members serve two-year terms and are responsible for drafting revisions or amendments to the OBAR Bylaws and/or OBAR Policy Manuals. Meets in the beginning of the year to review OBAR manuals and then meets as needed.

Are you a numbers person? Join the F& B committee. Six members serve two-year terms and meet monthly or as needed.  Members are responsible for preparing an annual budget; monitoring yearly income and expenditures; and identifying opportunities for non-dues revenue.

Members serve three-year terms and review ethics complaints and arbitration requests to determine if they should be forwarded for Hearing in accordance with NAR’s Code of Ethics and Arbitration Manual. All members must attend annual training (3yr-term) that is covered by OBAR.

Up to thirteen members serve three-year terms and oversee the operation of the OBAR MLS. Members implement the MLS Rules & Regulations under the guidance and direction of the Board of Directors and in accordance with the provisions of the NAR Multiple Listing Rules and Regulations.

Members are appointed to serve three-year terms and may be selected to serve on Hearing Panels as required to hear matters of alleged unethical conduct by members or to provide arbitration as requested in accordance with NAR’s Code of Ethics and Arbitration Manual. Members must attend annual professional standards training that is covered by OBAR.

Councils & Networks
Represent! Stay informed through these Councils & Networks:

The Property Management Council is open to all involved with property management, both short-term and long-term, and meets monthly, excluding May – August. The Planning Committee is an arm of the Property Management Council with members directly involved in scheduling speakers and presenters for the monthly meetings and other professional development forums aimed at educating property managers on all community and local issues which affect their industry.
